Demons

Deep beneath us all, we possess something so strong

Things we carry with us, for so very long.

Encumbered with the scars, the tears, the pain

Wishing one day happiness and clear skies we can rightfully gain.

We drone day to day wondering what we should have then been

The what ifs, the how comes, the whys, all remain within.

We do what's asked of us, and repress the memories

We lack ability to sleep or speak, never able to recharge the batteries.

The desire to improve, and then once again become whole

Is what we sought for our nerves, to get right with our soul.

These feelings we call demons, we trap deep beneath the surface

Constant war between mind and body, that can't be eased with purchase.

We know demons need vessels,  don't let them grasp ahold of you

They desire to once again to be pure, with a heart, that makes them true, like you.

Real Men

"Real Men" - An original piece by: Cody B. Luke

You can say that we're a rare creed, I'm talking about real men,
something that can be hard to describe, except through my mighty pen.

It's sad to see my fellow man, so strong in their selfish ambition,
but truth be told, they only release, avid covetous emission.

It's true pollution in my eyes, our children forced into self-righteous ways,
the "American Dream" of money and material, the keys to happy days.

But I prophesize to you, this isn't the honest way of life to live,
for the only route to true happiness is humility, selflessness, and always, to give.

A real man does acts of kindness, asking for nothing in return,
a thankful heart and a warm kind smile, is all he hopes to earn.

He stands up for what is right, and for those who cannot themselves,
his actions for the common good, not for trophies on shelves.

He holds himself to high standards, a persistent attempt to convene,
always treats a woman like a princess, for he was raised by a queen.

He's the type who always cares for your best interests, you can pour your heart into,
show up unexpected with dinner and champaigne, make you smile, instead of being blue.

He's got the humor of a jester, the talent to make you laugh at a bad situation,
Make your worst days seem like your birthday, the best type of foundation.

A gentleman of valor and chivalry always puts one before his own need,
respectful honest and noble - characteristics of a true leader, mankind's best breed.

True Love

"True Love" - An original Piece by: Cody Luke

There's not a day I live without thinking about love,
the way it changes people, make two become one, and fit like a glove.

One may become discouraged, for the journey can be painful and long,
but life will soon bring someone to you, in love you shall forever belong.

Today's society displays the thrill, the attention and all the allure,
but true love is not easy, that to you is something I can assure.

It takes dedication, hard work, an open mind and a big heart,
but together you shall have a new life, a chance, a fresh start.

When you feel loved, the euphoria can give off a natural high,
in which NO objects or silver and gold could ever buy.

The best thing is when it hits, you feel no pain,
only the ever-so-sweet affection you shall rightfully gain.

It does not discriminate, there's no judgment or disposition,
but it's up to you, to find love's true depiction.
